So I wrote the note below about freaking out over the new generic for
Lamictal. Here's the update: I called my neuro's office and talked
to her nurse. I told her about how I ended up with the generic
because my mail order pharmacy switched to generic. The nurse said I
should *not* use the generic and that they were recommending that none
of their patients to use the generic. (That neuro office specializes
in epilepsy.)
So, she called in a new prescription for brand name Lamictal -- and
the mail order pharmacy is filling it. I called my insurance company,
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and they said they would cover the
cost of the brand name no problem. Thank God!!!!!!
I'm not sure if my mail order pharmacy will take the generic pills
back. They are still sealed though. At least it only cost me $20
copay even if they don't take it back.
Based on our recent discussions, it seems like folks that have
insurance through the government (e.g., medicare and military) are
being forced to use the generic unless they go status. Gee, that's
just a great way to treat our older citizens on medicare and our
hero's in the military and anyone else on government insurance! My
nurse even said that was a ridiculous requirement.
